Hi everyone! My name is Amy. I am currently pursuing my passion in holistic healthcare. But how did I get here?
I am really lucky because I grew up with a mother who was very holistic-minded. I've been seeing the same functional doctor, Franne Berez MD ND, my whole life, so finding out the root cause of illness and enabling the body's natural ability to heal itself has always been the way. I grew up fairly healthy, though I now suspect my minor digestive issues I thought were normal is actually celiac disease.
When I left for college, my eating habits quickly went south; and with that so did my health suffered. In addition, I suffered a concussion, and tore my ACL which required surgery. It was the perfect storm. My mental and physical health suffered greatly. I was still in college, away from Dr. Franne, so I went to the local conventional doctors. They just wanted to put me on steroids (thankfully my mom never got the prescription filled) for my chronic hives and suggested all my issues were in my head. My intuition told me there was a physiological reason for my insomnia, anxiety, depression, mood swings...just to name a few. I worked with Dr. Franne on an elimination diet and gut healing, and low and behold, all my symptoms cleared up. The whole ordeal was a bit of an awakening--mentally, physically, and spiritually--I actually felt better than ever! This was in 2008, before the gluten-free craze hit Pittsburgh. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was eating a paleo-ish diet.
Once the gluten-free craze hit, I found myself back to eating gluten-free processed foods. Once again my health slipped. I found Primal Palate in Pittsburgh and gained my health back using their cookbook, Make It Paleo. During this time, I also began pursuing a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science; I wanted to be a health sciences librarian so I could do more research into diet, nutrition, and health. I began working at an osteopathic medical school in 2011, which seemed like a good fit. It wasn't enough though. So many people in my circles began complaining about health issues that I had been through myself and had fixed with nutrition; but I did not have the credentials to help them. I was just a librarian!
During this time, I began to experience stress from various sources and I know now I do not handle stress well. This eventually manifested in some pretty bad adrenal fatigue. I once again worked with Dr. Franne and began practicing yoga--it helped a little but I still could not get over some pretty big hurdles.
As luck would have it, I found Emily Schromm, one of my favorite personalities-turned-nutrition and fitness guru. I worked with her and was able to completely heal my gut and overcome my adrenal fatigue. She also enlightened me to the connection between leaky gut and head injuries (I have a history of concussions and whiplash dating back to my soccer playing days). I began working with her, first as a client, then as an ambassador for challenges, and learned so much about the importance of healthy fats, healing foods, food-based supplements, gut health, and adrenal issues; I also found helping her challengers make lifestyle changes to be very fulfilling. I finally made the leap and became a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner myself, through the Nutritional Therapy Association. It was the perfect fit. My goal is to help heal people, and along the way I found a tribe of like-minded people.

I am also a Beautycounter Consultant. I believe healing is multifactorial and what we put ON our bodies is just important as what we put IN them.
I'm an introvert (INFJ), Taurus, Questioner and Enneagram 4 (Individualist). My spirit animal is a crow. I am a healer, a highly sensitive person, and an empath (it's a blessing and a curse). I believe in the connection between the mind. body, and soul, and I want to show the world how nutrition plays a role in all three.
When I'm not chasing my toddler around, I like to practice yoga, watch football with my husband (2017 Fantasy Football Champion!), snuggle with my cats.
